Material from a magnesium die casting foundry is traced all the way through the magnesium recycling operation. Spectrographic analysis on incoming material provides information on the chemical composition of the scrap as it enters the recycling operation. The information is shared with the magnesium die casting foundry in order to link variations in scrap composition to variations in the die casting process.
